Yellowstone National Park Scout Badge
Details
This Yellowstone National Park Scout Badge has a special history to it. The earliest known badge attributed to a national park is that of the “Yellowstone Park Scout.” It likely came in after the 1894 Lacey Act, when civilians were hired to enforce the hunting prohibition in Yellowstone National Park. Known as Yellowstone Park Scouts, these civilians - the predecessors to today’s forest and park rangers - wore badges such as this one to illustrate their authority within the park’s boundaries.
This national park badge is a replica of the original which was silver and made by J.P. Cooke Company of Omaha, Nebraska.
